Charles Mattis is Director of Business Operations at AbbVie, Inc., where he oversees the financial aspects of the Development Sciences organization. Mr. Mattis received his Master of Science degree in Biology from Illinois Institute of Technology in 1999. He joined Abbott Laboratories in 2000 (AbbVie, Inc. 2013 to present) and held positions of increasing responsibility in the Preclinical Safety organization, including Study Director/Study Monitor and Toxicology Operations Manager. He achieved Diplomate status with the American Board of Toxicology in 2008. After earning his Master of Business Administration degree from DePaul University in 2016, he assumed and maintains budgetary responsibility for AbbVie’s Preclinical Safety function, including payroll, internal operating, and capital budgets, and financial oversight for outsourced nonclinical study work. He negotiates favorable pricing terms with third party suppliers of nonclinical safety assessment services and models to maximize the purchasing power of AbbVie’s R&D budget.
Mr. Mattis is co-author on 3 peer-reviewed articles. He has maintained membership in U.S. Society of Toxicology since 2017 and the American College of Toxicology since 2022. He has been a member of the Midwest Regional Chapter of the Society of Toxicology (MRC/SOT) since 1995, where he has served in the following capacities on the Executive Committee: Councilor 2004-2006, Secretary 2018-2019, President-Elect/President/Past-President 2019-2022, and Treasurer 2022-2024. He was elected as the Treasurer of the American College of Toxicology for the term December 2025 through November 2028.
