The American College of Toxicology Early Career Professional Outreach Subcommittee is pleased to announce the formation of the ACT Mentorship Program! The purpose of this program is to provide a pathway for early career professionals to interact with experienced leaders in the toxicology industry. Participants in this program will benefit from one-on-one meetings between the mentor and mentee, exclusive webinars, and special workshops and networking events at the Annual Meeting.

Both mentors and mentees will need to complete an application for the program on the website (www.actox.org). This is a fast and easy process, our goal is to match mentors and mentees based on their area of need and interest. All ACT members are invited to participate and will be receiving an email with a link to the mentorship program application.

We are also proud to announce the first webinar in the ACT Mentorship Program webinar series. Our presentation was “Taking the Leap: Myths and Realities of Starting Your Career as an Industry Toxicologist” was given by Jeffrey Moffit, PhD, DABT, Associate Director of Toxicology from FORUM Pharmaceuticals, Inc. on October 7. This was the first of many exciting webinars! Our first several webinars will be given by mentors and will be open to all ACT members. As our mentorship program grows, we will begin to make some of these webinars exclusive so that our mentees can have a safe environment to practice presentations for interviews and conferences. Keep an eye out for interesting topics!

We also have some exciting events specific to our early career professionals at the ACT Annual Meeting:

  • Putting the Right Words Forward in Communicating Your Toxicological research:
    Sunday, November 8 from 7:00 AM–7:55 AM
  • Speed Networking: Sunday, November 8 from 5:00 PM–6:15 PM
    • Come chat with experts in a variety of industries including: academia, pharma, CRO, and consulting
  • Continuing Education courses for early career professionals:
    Sunday, November 8
    • CE Course 1 (AM): Beyond Study Directing, Understanding the Big Picture: Building and Executing a Toxicology Program in Drug Development
    • CE Course 4 (PM): How to Be a Toxicology Project Leader—Scientific and Logistical Considerations Required for Participating on Pharma Multidisciplinary Project Teams
  • Bowling Night at the Red Rock Lanes: Monday, November 9, 7:30 PM–9:00 PM.
    • Enjoy a relaxed evening at the Red Rock Lanes where you can meet and mingle with both mentors and mentees.

We hope you find this program as exciting as we do! The first step is for both mentors and mentees to complete the application…..don’t worry…..it won’t take long! Just answer a few questions on your areas of interest and we will make the match!

Thank you in advance for participating in this program and for helping ACT advance its mission to educate, lead, and serve!
