ACT's Special Events and Programs
The Annual Meeting provides an ideal venue for keeping abreast of emerging trends in the discipline of toxicology, for staying connected with friends and colleagues, and for making new connections. ACT Council and our Program and Education committees continue to ensure development of Symposia and Continuing Education courses that are directly applicable to the daily practice of toxicology. ACT’s Annual Meeting is an ideal size for those who enjoy interacting personally with speakers, Council, and other colleagues in the field. Arrive early to enjoy a round of golf at the foothills of the Red Rock National Park with other attendees. The outing will be held at Bear’s Best Las Vegas, which is a unique golf course made up of 18 holes hand selected by Jack Nicklaus from his 270 designs worldwide. This course includes manicured bent grass greens, challenging designs, and immaculate fairway/tee complexes. This event is a great way to build relationships in a relaxed atmosphere while enjoying the scenic desert views on a unique course. This event is played in a fun format that accommodates all levels of golfers.
The player fees include 18 holes of golf with a GPS cart, Practice Range usage, a light reception, and participant door prizes.

Forum for Students and Early Career Professionals: Putting the Right Words Forward in Communicating Your Toxicological Research

Throughout our careers, toxicologists are continually challenged to communicate with peers, management, regulatory agencies, and the scientific community about the outcomes of basic research and safety assessment testing. The first step in writing is often organizing the key findings from a project into a coherent abstract. These should state the purpose of the study, the experiments performed, and include an effective presentation of the data, interpretation, and conclusions. Word selection is critical, and often simple word choices can greatly improve the quality of an abstract or summary document. A common criticism of the writing of many early career scientists is presentation of excessive reviews of the literature, without putting their current study into an appropriate context.
William J. Brock will provide an overview and discuss the good, bad, and ugly of abstracts and an industry perspective of regulatory documents. International Journal of Toxicology Editor Mary Beth Genter will provide her perspective and discuss journal article preparation.
This session is intended for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and early career scientists, although all are welcome. |

The ACT Furst Award for best student poster presentation will be announced as well as the Student Travel Awards, North American Graduate Fellowships, and International Travel Grant recipients.

Enjoy the beautiful and scenic views of being at the foothills of the Red Rock National Park, while the sun rises at ACT’s 2nd Annual ToxTrot. Start your morning off with some exercise by joining members from ACT’s Council as they walk, trot and run through the 5K course. There is no fee for this event. T-shirts will be offered after the event. This is a great opportunity to meet fellow ACT members and network, all while burning off a few calories. We will also be raffling off a complimentary 2016 ACT Annual Meeting registration after the event for participants who complete the Trot!
