Dear ACT members and Annual Meeting attendees:

After careful consideration, the American College of Toxicology is announcing today that the 41st Annual Meeting will be held virtually this year to protect the health and safety of our community.

This was not an easy decision; however, control of the coronavirus pandemic is unresolved and likely to remain so for the foreseeable future. Recent reports of a spike in new cases and hospitalizations in a number of states in advanced phases of reopening are alarming and contributed to this decision. We cannot accept the risk of potential COVID-19 exposure of those in attendance at a face-to-face meeting.

Fortunately, the experience during the pandemic has sparked innovative digital and mobile platforms to deliver timely educational content that meets the needs of our scientific community. I want to assure you that ACT Council, along with our Contingency Planning Working Group and our Program and Education Committees, are hard at work reinventing our Annual Meeting into virtual sessions that you will find valuable, interactive, and engaging. While we won’t meet in person this year, we are still very much a community that will stay connected.

If you had already registered for the planned face-to-face Annual Meeting, you will be contacted by ACT staff in the coming weeks. The JW Marriott Austin will cancel all ACT guest room reservations made within the official ACT hotel block. You will be receiving a cancellation email directly from the JW Marriott Austin.

Stay tuned to the ACT website for updates and details about our virtual Annual Meeting scientific program, special events, and interactive exhibition hall and poster presentations. While the specific dates of the virtual meeting are still being finalized as the Program and Education Committees determine the optimal meeting format, we plan to utilize the original meeting dates and a few extra days in November as well.

Until we “meet” again, I wish you and your loved ones good health and well-being,
